What Does AI Think About Texture in Paintings?!
I haven’t written on here for a while as I haven’t really used a lot of texture in my paintings in the last few years. Who knows, I might go back to it, but at the moment I am using layers of paint to create my abstract expressionist artworks. So I thought in light of the development in AI, I would ask Google’s Bard to write me an article about using texture in oil paintings and this is what they came up with!

100+ Titles For Abstract Paintings
I have been working on some new paintings which are all abstract and in the past I have found that it can be tricky to come up with titles for abstract paintings. However, in this case I feel like there is a lot of emotion and mental involvement in the creation of these paintings which means that I have been able to come up with plenty of titles. In fact I have a list of more than 100 titles for abstract paintings that fit the stage that I am in with my paintings.

Blog Post
Just another update on things. I thought I had updated not so long ago but it seems like it was last August! I have still been working on the fluid acrylic paintings with resin. I have been doing a series of waves which I enjoy and which have actually been selling quite well so once again the textured paintings have been put on the back burner! As my son is now in school full time I do have a bit more time to paint and I think my sales have reflected this. I have found a few more local exhibitions to take part in and last weekend I did Open…

Paint it Yourself – Red Abstract
I thought I would share some step by step instructions on one of my much older paintings that uses a different type of texture. It is quite a basic one and you have my permission to copy it if you want to! This is a relatively easy abstract to do and you can choose whichever colours you wish to use in your painting – I have chosen a red background with gold highlights. You could do it in blues and greens with silver or I have also done similar versions using browns and gold. The first thing to do is to apply the ‘texture’ that you are going to use…

Just a Post About Stuff :-)
I haven’t posted on here for a while so I thought I would just do a bit of a blog post about why not and to confirm I haven’t completely forgotten and neglected this site! I feel like I haven’t had so much time to do my art recently. I have 2 1/2 days when my son is at nursery but the half day pretty much goes with doing an exercise class and catching up with some other work I have going on. The other 2 days plus some time at the weekend are spent doing painting work, preparing paintings for exhibitions and the like and also building and updating…

Warm and Cool Blues – Which are Which?
Recently I was tasked with a commission to do for a large room that was north facing and had a bit of a dark feel to it. I wanted to use blues colours in the painting, and to add some warmth, I wanted to use warm blues. Little did I know the conflict I would find when looking to confirm my thoughts on what actually were warm blues! For me, I thought that blues that sided more towards the turquoise or cerulean end of the spectrum would be warmer than those that sided towards ultramarine and purple type blues. That was just my feeling. However, there are others that think…

Your Art in Our Book! Scam or Not?
I continually get emails from people or companies who profess to publish a book to showcase up and coming artists worldwide. I have to say I generally archive them immediately either with or without even reading them and I wondered if I was the only one to do this or if I am missing out on something here? Most of these emails specify that you have to pay for your pictures to be put in this book (what a surprise) but that only the best artists are selected. They also say that it is distributed widely and your artwork will be displayed alongside well known artists! Maybe I am a…

Every Painting is an Experiment
Just a quick post here as I have 5 minutes to spare after being at a talk by renowned UK artist Maggi Hambling this afternoon. I wasn’t really sure what to expect from the talk as it was really about her latest book but it was a very entertaining talk and I did buy one of her books afterwards. Anyway, one thing that she said that hit a chord with me was (and I think it might have been something that someone said to her) that every painting you do should be an experiment otherwise it all becomes a bit boring and repetitive. I thought about this and how right…

Finding Inspiration for Abstract Art
Sometimes it is difficult to find inspiration for abstract paintings, but there are techniques that you can use to give you some ideas of what to paint and this is what I will explore in this article. How Do You Get Inspiration? Sometimes (in fact quite often) people ask me how I get inspiration for my abstract paintings. Mostly I am inspired by particular colours or textures or have an idea come into my mind of a pattern or colour combination that I want to turn into a painting, but at other times I use other methods to find inspiration for my paintings. If you are an artist who wants…

Step by Step Textured Painting
So following on from my last post about using resin in my paintings I realised that I had actually meant to document the process of creating the painting shown in that article. So I put together all of the images I took during the creation process and have made them into a step by step video of how I did it which I thought might be of interest to some. For future paintings I have just got myself a new video camera so hopefully I will be able to do some better videos (although if my first attempt is anything to go by this may not actually work out so…
